"I first “met” EJ when he and his spouse “cajoled” me into entering a national podcast award program. However, they were very convincing, and I entered – for the next three years – did not win any!
A short while later, EJ and I started conversing on the fun. I learned that he was a volunteer firefighter as I had been. I learned that his profession was in creating plans for sprinkler systems and other water needs for new construction. And while I had learned about FDC’s in my early days, EJ opened my eyes to a great deal more of what he did.
I knew that this gentleman had a great deal of knowledge that he could share, not only with his home department, but with firefighters across the country. As I continued to cajole him to be my guest on “5-Alarm Task Force,” he put it off several times. So, I did the next best thing, I invited him to be a presenter in one of our webinars and nailed his presentation. I believe that this was a turning point for EJ, and he then created his own company, “Building Firefighter development.” And that has led to him sharing his knowledge with firefighters, fire departments, etc.
I consider myself lucky to have a great guest and dear friend in my corner!"

"There is a large gap in firefighter training when it comes to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing building systems. E.J.'s What's In Your Buildings program is a great drill night class that fills that gap. E.J. is passionate about sharing his knowledge, and he goes out of his way to customize the program to include examples from your local jurisdiction."
Bill Elder - Managing Director, Elder Technical Rescue
"E.J. brings a different and important perspective to the fire service as he is both a building systems designer as well as a certified firefighter. This combination of education and experience allows him to fully understand how buildings are designed and how the fire protection systems actually operate.
Engineers are often unaware of the true conditions that we operate in while firefighters typically just have a cursory knowledge of building construction and protection systems. E.J. bridges this gap and is able to operate effectively in both arenas.
He is extremely knowledgeable and yet remains humble. He is a continual student of the fire service as well as engineering which is quite evident.
Having had the privilege of attending E.J.’s class, I was impressed with his ability to break down technical information into a user friendly format. His attention to detail and thoroughness is evident in his presentations. Students who take a class from E.J. will find useful information that can provide immediate returns on the next call that deals with building systems."
